3 things that may have happened this month
Oh, hello, smiley baby 👋
Your baby is smiling socially—on purpose! Those grins are their way of connecting, so keep chatting, singing, and making silly faces.
Wait, was that a coo?
Baby talk is here! Those sounds and gurgles are their first steps toward language. Talk back—they love the sound of your voice.
Tiny kicks and punches 🥊
Movements are becoming more coordinated. Watch for stronger kicks during playtime and some epic arm flails.
Month 3 is coming, and it’s a game-changer
More smiles and more fun 🤭
Your baby’s smiles will become more frequent and expressive, especially when they hear a familiar voice or see a familiar face.
Exploring the world 🌎
Increased head control means they’ll start looking around more during tummy time and while being held upright.
What’s that in their hand? 🧸
Grasping and holding toys is coming up next. Provide soft, safe objects for them to explore.
Proactive Tip: Try tummy time on different surfaces, like a soft mat or blanket. New textures and angles keep things interesting and help build strength!
Vaccines & well-child visits
Here’s what’s coming up in month 3 during your in-person pediatric visits:
The 2-month well-child visit:
Your pediatrician will:
Monitor your baby’s growth (weight, length, and head circumference).
Go over developmental milestones with you.
Answer any questions you have about sleep, feeding, or behavior.
Vaccines:
Your baby will receive their first round of vaccines, which include:
DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis)
Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b)
IPV (Polio)
PCV13 (Pneumococcal)
Rotavirus
Tip: After vaccines, mild fussiness, a low-grade fever, or swelling at the injection site is normal. Keep infant acetaminophen on hand, and follow your pediatrician’s advice if needed.
